So I haven’t been reading as much lately because well life and Gilmore Girls. I’ve recently just finished watching all 7 seasons of Gilmore Girls. I know it’s weird it’s taken me this long to watch the show but what better time to do it then right before the new season, right? Anyway, while I was binge watching several books have come out and now I’m hopelessly behind. I’m still reading Empire of Storms by Sarah J. Maas. I have waiting in the wings.
The Hammer of Thor by Rick Riordan just came out. The latest in his Magnus Chase series with Norse gods. Then there’s Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo the sequel to Six of Crows. And then The Bronze Key by Holly Black and Cassandra Clare. Also The Midnight Star by Marie Lu the finale of The Young Elites Trilogy.
I have also recently picked up The Swan Riders by Erin Bow, the sequel to Scorpion Rules. I had no idea there was a sequel so I’m super excited for that. A Study in Charlotte by Brittany Cavallaro and The Fifth Season by N.K. Jemisin are two books that were impulse buys. I have so much to read but what else is new.
What books are on your t0 read list this month?
I’ve been working part time at BN again so I haven’t had time to finish reading the latest Young Bond as quickly as I would like. I’m enjoying it immensely so far though. I just haven’t been sleeping so well so I’ve been falling asleep on the train instead of reading. After that, I have a couple of Fleming related nonfiction books to get to. One by Matthew Parker about Fleming in Jamaica during the 1950s and the other is a collection of Fleming’s letters. Sadly, Steve Cole is ending his tenure as the Young Bond author with his next book Red Nemesis due out next year. I hope they get Charlie Higson back.
I’ve also written a new short story but it’s a bit too long to post on my site. I worked on it over the last couple of months on and off. I don’t know if it’s any good, but it’s sort my attempt at a spy story of sorts, however, it doesn’t start out that way. It’s sort of my take on Fleming’s The Spy Who Loved Me novel which he wrote from the perspective of a woman who Bond saves. My story just reverses the genders so it’s from a male perspective with a female spy who enters the story and becomes the heroine.

I’ll have to check out your blog. I admit I haven’t been there in a while. I feel like there just as many books about Fleming as Bond books themselves.

That’s definitely the case. It’s been hard to keep up, but given your love for YA I think you would enjoy the Young Bond books if you decide to give it a try. Ive decided to try submitting the recent story I wrote so I’m going to hold off on posting it to my blog at least until it gets rejected. If you want to read it I can send it to you. It definitely needs some improvement but I have a draft that I’ve been tinkering with.
